Om Ali

Om Ali is a dessert of Egyptian origin that is made mostly of pastry, milk and nuts. One can use any type of fruits, nuts, almonds, pistachio, etc. According to the legend Om Ali was the first wife of the sultan Ezz El Din Aybek. When the sultan died, his second wife had an argument with Om Ali. The issue between the two women led to the death of the second wife. In order to celebrate Om Ali prepared this dessert and served it to the people.

Ingredients(for 8 persons):

  • 1 pastry package
  • 1 cup of cut nuts
  • 1 cup of cut walnuts
  • 1 cup of raisins
  • 1 cup of coconut flakes
  • 250 g sugar (1,25 cups)
  • 950 ml milk
  • 120 ml whip cream

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven at 175 degrees
  2. Put the pastry into the oven and leave it until it gets golden
  3. Mix the all the nuts with the raisins, coconut, ¼ sugar cup, breake the previously baked pastry and stir. Put the mix in a tray.
  4. Boil the milk wit half a cup sugar then put it in the tray, over the mix.
  5. Mix the whip cream with half a cup sugar, then spread it over the nut mix.
  6. Put it in the oven until the surface gets golden-brown(about 10 mins). Serve hot.

“Este un desert de origine egipteana care contine aluat pentru pateuri, lapte si nuci. Se pot folosi orice tip de fructe sau alune, migdale,fistic,etc. Conform legendei Om Ali era prima sotie a sultanului Ezz El Din Aybek. Cand acesta a murit a doua sotie a acestuia a avut o disputa cu Om Ali. Confruntarea dintre cele doua a dus la moartea celei de a doua sotii. Pentu a sarbatori Om Ali a facut acest desert si l-a servit poporului.”

INGREDIENTE (pentru 8 portii):

  • 1 pachet aluat de pateuri
  • 1 cana nuci taiate
  • 1 cana alune taiate
  • 1 cana stafide
  • 95 g nuca de cocos rasa
  • 250 g zahar
  • 950 ml lapte
  • 120 ml frisca

PREPARARE:

  1. Incalziti cuptorul la 175 grade si ungeti o tava
  2. Puneti foile de aluat in tava si bagati in cuptor, cand foaia devine crocanta si aurie scoateti foaia respectiva. Continuati procesul pana ce toate foile sunt crocante si aurii.
  3. Amestecati nucile alunele, stafidele, nuca de cocos, ¼ cana de zahar, rupeti aluatul, copt in prealabil, in bucati si amestecati. Intindeti amestecul in tava.
  4. Fierbeti laptele cu ½ cana zahar la foc mediu si apoi vrsati in tava.
  5. Bateti frisca cu ½ cana zahar pana cand se intareste. Intindeti in tava peste amestecul de alune.
  6. Dati la cuptor pana cand partea de deasupra prine o culoare auriu-maronie (cam 10 minute). Se serveste calda.
